Altrimenti “otherwise” in Italian, was born of a desire to offer an excellent, innovative, and accessible solution to problems that arise from food wastage. Samanta Vergati, founder of the association and environmental economist, was born in Naples and is passionate about cooking, and the link between societal issues and nutrition. She wanted to create a project that linked together the reduction and eventually the elimination of waste, traditional cuisine, culture all in a relaxed atmosphere. Thanks to time spent with her grandmother she has, little by little, adopted and integrated simple cooking habits, along with local history and traditional recipes. The transmission of this cultural heritage was ensured by first watching her grandmother cook then later, by cooking together. Her history and her education have meant that rather than looking at the past nostalgically, she is able to analyse, innovate and engage.
